This is the degree for students with a deep interest in the media but who are also keen to explore wider sociological questions and who want to develop knowledge and skills relevant to jobs outside, as well as inside, the media arena. You will learn a range of theoretical and methodological approaches and an ability to apply these to a wide range of media and society-related phenomena. You will also be able to explore your own particular interests in a wide range of media and sociology related option modules.

Are you interested in the role of genetics and molecular biology in understanding, diagnosing and treating disease, including clinical research, genetic testing and genetic counselling? On this course you will study a broad range of relevant topics, including proteins, gene expression, molecular cell biology, metabolism and molecular medicine and biomedical ethics.

Do you want to know more about infectious diseases, which are responsible for a third of all deaths and are a major cause of death in infants and young children? This degree will give you a thorough understanding of the range, type, structure and physiology of infectious organisms that cause disease in humans; including the major microbial diseases. You will appreciate how such organisms infect the human body, promoting both health and disease, and how such infections are prevented, managed or cured.

Are you curious about how the human body works, from intricate cellular processes to the function of organs, and how malfunctions in these processes can lead to disease? Your degree in Medical Physiology will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of human physiology at the molecular, cellular and systems level. Specialist modules will introduce you to common diseases of each of these systems and the scientific rationale for drug therapy in each case.

The MBChB with Foundation Yearis aimed at students who wish to study Medicine at the University of Leicester, but whose background makes it less likely that they will be able to meet the entry requirements for our standard five-year MBChB.
