The curriculum combines specialist study and a broad-based education in professional reflection, assessment and research methods. The MA(CBAE)’s unique focus on individual arts-based research, group work, and experiential learning operates in tandem with the HKIEd’s ongoing community-based activities.

The Master of Public Policy and Governance [MPPG] Programme is designed to help the students to meet with the current worldwide challenges by exploring Asia’s policy problems, their solutions and the mechanisms for effective governance. Delivered by a team of distinguished specialists, the Programme provides in-service professionals, policy practitioners and future public leaders with skills in policy analysis and evaluation, organization analysis and management, strategic communications, project analysis, public governance, and public sector management and development. MPPG brings leading-edge learning of management issues including human resources, financial management and leadership while fostering students’ capabilities and skills for a bright career. It further enhances the students’ employability owing to the knowledge of general management.

The Master of Social Science Education in Greater China Studies [MSocScEd(GCS)] encourages students to explore the Greater China region - Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, Taiwan and beyond. It arms students with solid but wide-range knowledge on politics, culture, economics and development about the region. Engaging in vibrant academic discussions and hands-on experience in research, students are able to analyze social issues critically and empirically upon graduation. Past graduates have advanced as analysts, government officials, and executives in business corporations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Given our strong academic training, some students also pursue further studies locally as well as abroad.

Applicant whose Bachelor degree is obtained from a non-English speaking institution should normally fulfill one of the following minimum English proficiency requirements: IELTS 6.0; or Grade C or above in GCSE / GCE OL English; or a TOFEL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (internet-based test); or Band 6 in the Chinese Mainland’s College English Test (CET) (a total score of no lower than 430 if the test was taken after June 2005); or Other equivalent qualifications.

The minimum entrance requirement for this MA programme is a recognized Bachelor’s degree in subject areas other than mathematics (or equivalent), who are preferred to be in-service or prospective mathematics teachers. They should possess at least Hong Kong AS-level (Grade E or above) or HKDSE-level (Level 4 or above) mathematics background or an equivalent qualification in mathematics. *

The programme emphasizes mathematics subject knowledge, innovative pedagogical practices and flexible teaching environments. It is primarily designed for in-service or prospective mathematics teachers who are looking for an opportunity to upgrade their mathematical knowledge and to apply such knowledge to the learning and teaching of mathematics in the school settings. It aims to enable the participants to become competent mathematics teachers and enhance their upward mobility in the teaching career.

Master of Arts in Education for Sustainability [MA(EfS)] was launched by The Hong Kong Institute of Education under the Department of Science and Environmental Studies. Some courses will be taught by oversea scholars from The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) (Australia). This programme emphasises subject knowledge, innovative pedagogical practices, flexible teaching environments and a critical approach to thinking about educational and sustainability issues. Graduates of various disciplines, in-service teachers, local and international non-governmental organisation (NGO) workers, government officials and private sector consultants are welcome.

Applicants whose entrance qualifications are obtained from institutions in a non-English speaking system should normally meet the EdUHK’s post-graduate admission language requirement: IELTS 6.0; or a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based test) or 80 (internet-based test); or Grade C or above in GCSE / GCE OL English; or Band 6 in the Chinese Mainland’s College English Test (CET) (a total score of no lower than 430 if the test was taken after June 2005); or Other equivalent qualifications.

The Master of Social Sciences in Global and Hong Kong Studies is the first Master programme that adopts multi-dimensional and multidisciplinary perspectives on studying and understanding Hong Kong. It combines the core elements of both Global Studies with that of Hong Kong Studies. The study of Hong Kong under the broader contexts of China and the world constitutes a unique area that examines not simply the internal evolution of Hong Kong but also its external, complex and dynamic interactions with the international community. Students will be educated to have global perspectives and a deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s developments from multidisciplinary perspectives, particularly sociology, political science, economics and history.
