    In 2009, the Brian Friel Theatre and Centre for Theatre Research were opened by the late playwright Brian Friel. The Centre consolidates our reputation for producing 'world-leading' and 'internationally-excellent' research, which encompasses traditional and practice-based methods. We offer students the opportunity to undertake advanced, original research in one of the department's areas of specialisation, such as Irish Theatre, Shakespeare, post-conflict drama, movement and dance, practice-as-research and applied theatre.

The group's research strengths cover economic theory, applied economics and econometrics. The group has a particular interest in game theory and economic history. Aside from gaining close research advice and direction from their supervisors and other academics in the group, research students benefit from attending courses and tailor-made reading groups to complete their background preparation in economics.
