The Master of Finance provides an understanding of financial management principles and their application to corporate financial policy. Graduates of the degree will have an understanding of Australian and international financial markets, knowledge of derivative assets and the operation of the markets in these assets, as well as various specialised aspects of the finance industry and the appropriate skills for analysing and interpreting developments in financial practice.

The majority of proposals will involve research by means of the candidate’s own practice in parallel with a substantial written dissertation. While the School insists that MFA practice-based projects fulfil the rigorous requirements of academic research, the nature of the practice will vary considerably from project to project. For example the creation of a new devised performance, the investigation through performance of the work of a profiled choreographer or a new approach to dance training. The onus is on the candidate to ensure that their practice can provide the basis for a thorough research investigation, and that the research focus can be consciously articulated in written form.

The Master of Fine Arts (Film and Television) gives experienced film and television practitioners, and high level film students, the opportunity to engage in independent research in their field. The degree will enable student researchers to develop mastery and advance the practice and theory in their field.

The Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts research is conducted through the Centre for Ideas. A rich program of visiting philosophers and theorists provides you with a unique intellectual environment in which to pursue research in the visual and performing arts and their interconnections with other knowledge domains.

Research through creative practice is central to the graduate programs of the School of Performing Arts, where we seek to nurture creative excellence and innovation. The Production specialisation of the MFA invites students to engage in research projects which develop relevant aspects of performance practice, and that illuminate or expand the medium in some way.

The Theatre specialisation of the MFA invites students to engage in research projects focused, in a broad range of different ways, on theatrical practice or issues related to theatre, or that illuminate or expand on the medium in some way.

The Master of Fine Arts (Visual Art) is one of Australia’s longest running MFA programs and is renowned for the excellence of its graduates.
