Economics is essential to modern life, because it seeks to understand, assess and explain the mechanisms of markets and national economies. The Economics major builds problem-solving skills that are applicable to careers in business and government. It will teach you how to analyse and interpret data and equip you with the tools to find smart solutions for the numerous problems confronting governments and the commercial world. Three areas of study are available within the main discipline: microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics, and quantitative methods.

If you want to develop your management expertise, the Master of Management will give you the tools to advance your management, decision-making and problem-solving skills so you can move into senior managerial positions.The course covers changing and dynamic organisational environments, and is suitable for experienced professionals from a range of backgrounds, including government, community service and not-for-profit organisations as well as people with technical backgrounds in engineering and medicine, who are seeking to career progression into management.

Engineering involves the planning, design and construction of the built environment for the provision of essential services and infrastructure in a manner that respects and works with the natural and social environmental contexts in which it occurs. Engineers use their sophisticated understanding of these concepts to create solutions to improve quality of life. This major provides you with the interdisciplinary skills necessary to succeed in this complex and exciting field. Given the critical link engineers create between society, the built and natural environments, this major draws upon one of the key strengths of the Bachelor of Environments – its interdisciplinary approach to problem solving – to build your teamwork skills. You will learn how to work with a range of specialists, such as architects, biologists, ecologists, natural resource managers, planners, community groups, farmers and other engineering disciplines, in order to establish sustainable and resilient human-environment systems.

Construction explores the management of people, processes and materials on specific building projects and across the entire building industry. Just as the building industry embraces both building and commerce, so too do studies in construction, with subjects undertaken in everything from construction and structures to management and law. The skills you learn are relevant to the real world, with site visits and guest speakers from industry an important part of the program. Applicants for this major must have completed Units 3 and 4 Mathematical Methods or equivalent.

This major focuses on the relationship between human activities and the natural and built environment, and humanity’s reliance on the earth’s natural resources. Humanity has an ever-changing relationship with the natural environment. It is a complex, issues-rich relationship that requires careful and considered management. The quality of the world’s societies and ecosystems depends on the sustainable management of our farmlands, forests and oceans. It is also determined by how we manage our cities and our handling of water supplies, energy, wastes and air. Technological advances to address these problems are rarely free of environmental costs and professionals working in this field must also negotiate contemporary political disputes.

Making efficient use of scarce resources for the management and conservation of the environment is a major challenge within the sphere of environmental science. This major will enable you to help identify and solve our world’s pressing environmental problems, through studies in disciplines ranging from biology to earth science and chemistry. It will also equip you with valuable experience in environmental monitoring and management, as well as skills in risk and issues assessment.

Spatial Systems is the study of the science and technology of 3D measurement, mapping and visualisation. Spatial Systems is about spatial information – capturing, analysing, managing and presenting it. Spatial information is an essential and indispensible part of any economy's infrastructure. It is needed in all walks of life and on many scales, with applications including land tenure systems, environmental modelling, food production, disaster management, health and artificial intelligence. It is one of the fastest-growing IT industries.

The major in Landscape Management will give you an understanding of the living and social systems required to plan and manage a range of outdoor environments – from urban parks to wilderness areas. You will explore the physical and social components of these systems – the flora, fauna, soils, water and people, and the complex relationships between them. Throughout the major, understanding of ecosystems is explored in the context of management issues and strategies, helping to develop your skills for professional practice in landscape management.

The Property major focuses on ownership, development, management and the occupation of land and buildings. You will learn about the valuation and management of assets and the people, processes and finance related to the property industry. Just as the property industry embraces both buildings and commerce, so too do studies in property. You will undertake subjects in everything from economics and finance, property valuation and management to development, construction, urban planning and law.
