The Master of Health Management is designed to meet the needs of health managers today and sets the benchmark for health services management training. The program is offered in two streams using scenarios tailored to either the Australian healthcare system or developing health care systems.
A Master of Health Management (or equivalent with Credit average) and an approved research proposal.
The Master of Health Management (MHM) provides students with the advanced disciplinary knowledge and capacities for undertaking challenging senior managerial roles in health services either in Australia or internationally. The program is designed to develop judgment-ready, critically reflexive practitioners who can improve health service systems and outcomes. The Master of Health Management (Extension) is designed for students extends students’ knowledge and skills in health services research. Many of our graduates occupy key positions in health services and universities in Australia and across the globe or undertake a PhD in health management as the first step in developing a career in health services research.
A candidate for the degree shall:
1.Have an MBBS or other medical degree (including such qualifications from another country), or
2.Have been awarded the degree of Bachelor, and have relevant experience.
This program is designed for teachers and/or educational administrators in the health professions who wish to develop their research skills by undertaking studies leading to the award of the degree of Master of Health Professions Education, either as full-time or part-time internal students or as students external to the University. The latter are required to spend a minimum of 14 weeks in the School during the program.
The Master of Philosophy is a research degree with an examinable coursework component, taken over three sessions and comprising 72 units of credit. A thesis, awarded 54 units of credit, embodies the result of an original investigation. The thesis may take the form of a written dissertation or a combined submission, comprising a studio/production component or curated exhibition and a written dissertation. A program of advanced study, comprising 18 units of credit of coursework, makes up the remainder of the program. The coursework component will normally comprise three courses:
The Master of Fine Arts program enables students of proven ability to engage in the sustained investigation at an advanced level of an area of interest or concern in their visual arts practice. This inquiry takes the form of a supervised research project and leads to the exhibitions, performance, publication or screening of artwork/s that are complete, coherent and appropriate to the stated inquiry.
An Honours degree in engineering or a related discipline from a tertiary institution recognised by UNSW.
This program is designed primarily as a training course in advanced work. The candidate learns the fundamentals of research and acquires certain new techniques. The candidate must undertake an original investigation but this would normally be more limited in scope and degree of originality than for a doctorate.

There is a rapidly growing need for a skilled workforce in forensic mental health in NSW. The Forensic Mental Health Services (criminal aspects) are largely provided for by NSW Justice Health and development of new facilities will require additional suitably qualified staff for the foreseeable future. Forensic Psychiatry private practice provides further opportunities for practitioners. It should be emphasised that the Masters of Forensic Mental Health is not designed to lead to registration as a psychologist in NSW (unlike the Masters of Forensic Psychology offered through the UNSW School of Psychology).
